Ian Livingstone is an inspirational keynote speaker on business and entrepreneurship. He is a leading pioneer of interactive entertainment and fiction, and one of the leading players behind best selling games such as 'Tomb Raider' and 'Hitman'. 

Games Workshop and Dungeons & Dragons

1975 Ian Livingstone founded Games Workshop with Steve Jackson and launched Dungeons & Dragons in Europe and the Games Workshop retail chain.  In 1977 he launched White Dwarf, the UK’s first interactive games magazine, and was its editor for 5 years. In 1982, again with Steve Jackson, he devised Fighting Fantasy, the series of interactive gamebooks that sold over 15 million copies in 23 languages. He wrote more than 20 books in the series including his best-selling Deathtrap Dungeon.  He has also invented many board games.

Ian Livingstone: Eidos & Lara Croft

In 1992 he became Deputy Chairman of computer games company Domark. In 1995 he oversaw the merger and flotation of Domark with technology company Eidos and served as Executive Chairman of the Board of the new interactive entity Eidos plc until 2002.  At Eidos - the UK's leading developer and publisher of video games - he was instrumental in securing many of the company's major franchises including Tomb Raider and Hitman.

Ian Livingstone's Award and Achievements

  • In 2000 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Technology by the University of Abertay Dundee.
  • In 2002 he was awarded the BAFTA Special Award for his outstanding contribution to the interactive entertainment industry.
  • In 2003 he was appointed Creative Industries advisor to the British Council.
  • In 2004 he was made a Creative Industries Luminary for London.
  • In 2004 he was appointed Non-Executive Chairman of Bright Things plc.
  • In 2005 he was appointed Skillset’s Chair of the Computer Games Skills Forum.
  • In 2006 he was awarded an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List for his contribution to the Computer Games Industry.
  • In 2010 Ian Livingstone was awarded a British Inspiration Award for his work in the interactive entertainment sector

Ian is Life President for Eidos and a spokesperson for the UK video games industry as a whole. Ian is an excellent keynote speaker with a great deal of knowledge and personal experience.

He lives in South West London with his wife Frances and four children and is trying hard to find the time to finish his new children’s novel.

Ian Livingstone, founder of Games Workshop wins British Inspiration Award
29th April 2010Pioneer of interactive entertainment and fiction, Ian Livingstone has been presented with an award at the British Inspiration Awards. Britain’s top creative, entrepreneurial and inspirational minds from the worlds of fashion, film, television, arts, science and innovation, were honoured at the inaugural British Inspiration Awards. Alexander McQueen, Sir James Dyson, Nick Park, Michael Eavis, and Sir Terence Conran were amongst the names recognised for their contribution to the Creative Economy of Great Britain and for the Inspiration that they have given to others.

23rd December 2009The Sunday Times has announced its list of contenders for their annual Business Person of the Year award. The finalists have shown true grit and determination - many have hauled their businesses through a rather perilous time unscathed and are survivors in the business world. The contenders are Angela Ahrendts (pictured left), Ross Brawn, Frank Chapman, Richard Cousins, Founders of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone and Evan Williams, Steve Jobs, Sam Laidlaw, Alan Mulally, Kate Swann, and John Varley.
BSkyB is Britain's most admired company 2009
2nd December 2009Media firm BSkyB landed the top spot in Management Today's Britain's Most Admired Companies awards on monday night. Led by CEO Jeremy Darroch, the organisation is one of the youngest to be handed the accolade, topping each of the nine criteria to secure the award. Matthew Gwyther, editor of Management Today said: 'It (BSkyB) is barely more than a stripling upstart amongst the great names of UK business, some of which have been around for centuries in one form or another. It has shown that a class-leading product, well marketed and slickly delivered, can continue to grow and prosper even in the most challenging circumstances.' Tesco and Johnson Mathey took the second and third slots respectively, with Cadbury, GlaxoSmithKline and Rolls-Royce trailing at numbers four, five and six.

Ian Livingstone: Various people and organisations wanted to know more about my life in games.

Ian Livingstone: Not really except I was quite nervous. It was many years ago.
