As well as speaking after dinner, Chris Barrie is a popular awards host and conference link presenter. He often appears in the guise of a close relative of Gordon Brittas - to bless the proceedings the Brittas way.

Mr Brittas and Arnold Rimmer

Chris is perhaps best known for his performance as the marvellously annoying leisure centre manager Gordon Brittas, in The Brittas Empire. He also played the deeply sad Arnold Rimmer in Red Dwarf, the man who only made love to a woman once in his entire life (and this after she had been hit on the head by a winch).

Adding More Strings to his Bow

More recently Chris has added big screen credits to his CV, appearing with Angelina Jolie as Hilary the butler in the Tomb Raider movies. The latest string to his television bow is Chris Barrie's Massive Engines for The Discovery Channel, in which the self-confessed car fanatic explores the development of trains, diggers, airships and various other industrial wonders.

Originally an impressionist, Chris’s TV career began with a memorable contribution to Jasper Carrott’s Election Night Special. He was quickly signed up as a cornerstone of the pioneering Spitting Image team, and provided voices for Ronald Reagan, Prince Charles, David Coleman, Paul Daniels, Barry Norman and John Cole.

Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Chris lives near Maidenhead with his wife and children, two dogs and a growing collection of classic cars and motorbikes.
