Kevin Jones Biography
Dr Kevin Jones is a former member of the Heart-Lung transplant team at Papworth Hospital and has been on the after dinner circuit for the last 20 years. Kevin takes a completely non-serious look at medicine through the eyes of a hospital consultant and is the ideal after dinner speaker. In fact, the surgeon will have his audience in stitches…
Background and Career - In the Beginning
Qualifying in medicine from Liverpool University in 1977, his career has taken him far and wide – six years at St Barts in London, a one year visiting research fellowship in Colorado and he is and now a practicing Chest Consultant in the North of England.
Although nothing interferes with his work for the National Health Service and his duties as Medical Officer to Salford Rugby League Football Club, he loves speaking with a passion.
Dr Kevin Jones as After Dinner Speaker and Speaking Topics
Kevin talks at over 70 dinners a year, many within the corporate world. He is the number one medical After Dinner speaker on the circuit and is much in demand for business conferences, gala dinners, sporting testimonials and trade associations.

Speakers Corner: How did the corporate speaking/presenting start?
Kevin Jones : I used to be the medical officer for Huyton Rugby League Football Club when I was a junior doctor on Merseyside. I would look after them during weekend games. There was a testimonial dinner for one of the players. The two speakers were retired rugby players and were very poor. The dinner was fading to a lousy end. I had done a lot of speaking and acting at University so I offered to get up and tell a few medical stories. It went down really well and someone in the audience asked me to do a dinner for them. It all started from there which was about 25 years ago.
Speakers Corner: Can you remember your first corporate event?
Kevin Jones : It was a testimonial dinner to celebrate the career of Mick Adams who had played for Widnes Rugby League Club and had been captain of the Great Britain Rugby League team. The other speakers that night were Vince Karalius the rugby league legend and the comedian Bernard Manning. There were about 600 in the audience and it was held in a hotel near Warrington. I went down really well with a collection of medical stories and my experiences with Huyton Rugby League Club
Speakers Corner: And your last event?
Kevin Jones : I spoke at a fund raising dinner for Halifax Town Footballl Club in Bradford on March 5th . The speaker on before me was Graham Poll the football referee.
Speakers Corner: Which corporate event has been your favourite to date and why?
Kevin Jones : There have been very many. One of my favourites was a big CBI dinner in the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. There were 1200 people at the dinner which was held in the ballroom which used to be an ice-rink. The acoustics were amazing and I got a standing ovation at the end. About 4 years ago, I did the Lord’s Taverners Christmas Lunch at the Hilton Hotel in London and got a standing ovation. I sat on the same table as Sir David Frost.
Speakers Corner: If you could speak/present at any event, past or future, what would it be?
Kevin Jones : I have an ambition ( which I may never realise ) of going to do a show at the Fringe during the Edinburgh festival. I would also love it if Bob Dylan asked me to speak at his 70th birthday party.
Speakers Corner: Who would you most like to share a platform with?
Kevin Jones : I once shared a platform with Stephen Fry. The man is a polymath genius and I would love to meet him again
Speakers Corner: On average, how many corporate events do you do a year?
Kevin Jones : I turn down far more than I actually do. My first job will always be as a consultant physician. I reckon I do about 40 events a year.
Speakers Corner: Are you as happy speaking/presenting with an audience of 50 as 1,000?
Kevin Jones : Yes - but larger audiences are more fun
Speakers Corner: How do you like to be introduced?
Kevin Jones : Dr Kevin Jones qualified in Medicine form Liverpool University in 1977. Spent 4 years on the Heart-Lung transplant team at Papworth Hospital Cambridge. Six years at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London and is now a Consultant Chest Physician at a large Lancashire Hospital
Speakers Corner: Your favourite film?
Kevin Jones : “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”
Speakers Corner: Favourite book?
Kevin Jones : “ A Burnt Out Case “ by Graham Greene
Speakers Corner: Favourite holiday destination?
Kevin Jones : Australian Barrier Reef. My hobby is SCUBA diving
Speakers Corner: Country or townie?
Kevin Jones : Townie
