A former chef and cookery demonstrator, Lesley Waters' lively personality makes her a popular television cook and a regular member of the team on Ready Steady Cook (BBC 1), and a frequent guest on Good Food Live (UK Food Channel) and This Morning (ITV1).  She regulary runs cookery demonstrations and team building events for corporate clients.

Becoming a Chef

She studied French Cuisine for three years at Ealing College, which included time as a chef at the Waldorf Hotel. During this training period, she won one gold, and two silver medals at Hotelympia and was awarded a scholarship to the Hotel Intercontinental, Dusseldorf.

In 1978 Lesley joined Prue Leith's Restaurant and was quickly promoted to position of senior chef. She then worked as a freelance corporate chef and caterer for government officials before joining Leith's School of Food and Wine as an instructor, rising to head teacher. Here she perfected her cookery demonstration and food photography skills. She often represented British food at international cookery displays, taking as her theme 'good food for health's sake'.

Lesley in Television

She has worked in television since 1989. In addition to GMTV and Bazaar her work has included writing and presenting a series of network Cookery Club programmes for Chrysalis TV, resident cook for Lifestyle Channel and currently for UK Living. In 1992 she teamed up with Malcolm Gluck to present the Superplonk video, the guide to 101 top supermarket wines, produced by Chrysalis.

During 1994 she co-presented a 12 part TV series for Anglia about healthy living, called Bodyworks. She was one of the major presenters of Can't Cook Won't Cook and is a Ready Steady Cook regular. In 1999 she completed the incredibly successful Ready Steady Cook Roadshow playing to packed theatre houses across the UK. Lesley also co-presented Surprise Chefs for the Meridian region and has guested on Food & Drink, flying to Thailand for the programme to record a number of Thai cooking demonstrations, Celebrity Ready Steady Cook, Light Lunch and the BBC daytime show Who'll Do The Pudding. She was also the resident chef for the annual BBC Primetime Show Weight of the Nation. She has recorded three of her own series for Carlton Food Network, Real Food, Flavours from Abroad and First Taste.

Author and Cookery School

Lesley has written nearly twenty books including

  • Fifteen Minute Feasts for BBC Books, Four Seasons Cookery for BBC Books
  • Sainsbury's Quick and Easy Food for Friends (Martin Books, 1995)
  • Weight Watchers Carefree Christmas (Simon & Schuster, 1996)
  • Ready Steady Cook Book 3 (BBC Books, 1997)
  • Weight Watchers Store Cupboard Cookery (Simon & Schuster, 1997).

These were followed by Classic Starters and Juice Up Your Energy Levels both for Orion and The Essential Pasta Book for Weidenfeld & Nicolson. Broader Than Beans a major vegetarian cook book was published by Headline in 1998 and the follow up Cooler Than Chillies was published 2000. and recent titles include New To Cooking (Ryland Peters and Small) and Healthy Food (Quadrille). She has also launched a series of paperback cookbooks with food retailer Julian Graves.

Another exciting project started for Lesley in 2004 when she set up her own cookery school based in her Dorset home. The mission statement for Lesley's school is 'to inspire, give confidence and have fun!'

Revolving restaurant in London's BT Tower is to reopen after 30 years
2nd November 2009Gary Rhodes, Heston Blumenthal and Jamie Oliver are to be approached by BT to run the revolving restaurant at the top of the BT Tower (formerly the Post Office Tower) when it re-opens at the end of 2011 after a 30 year closure.
Gü Brings Sweet Success for James Averdieck
16th December 2008Gü Chocolate Puds, founded by James Averdieck in 2003 has recently become a multi award winner. Not content with scooping the New Exporter of the Year Award, sponsored by UK Trade and Investment, Gü Chocolate Puds also went on to be crowned the overall Food and Drink Exporter of the Year 2008.
Lisa Faulkner wins Celebrity Masterchef
25th August 2010Lisa Faulkner cooked up a storm to win Celebrity Masterchef, beating finalists Dick Strawbridge and Christine Hamilton to the title. Masterchef judge, John Torode praised Lisa's 'natural touch and fantastic palate'.
The Good Food Guide rates The Fat Duck as the top
11th August 2010Heston Blumenthal's restaurant 'The Fat Duck' has been voted the top restaurant in the UK for the third year in a row. Other top chefs that appeared in the top 10 included Marcus Wareing, Raymond Blanc and Gordon Ramsey

Lawrence Dallaglio puts his name to a pasta sauce - a diversion from rugby and conference speaking
29th September 2009The former England and Wasps rugby player and renowned motivational conference speaker has teamed up with the Salca, the Italian sauce maker best known for their pesto sauce. The Dallaglio sauces will be on Waitrose's shelves this week and at a premium price, are aimed at the top end market. Since Lawrence Dallaglio is one of Speakers Corner's favourite motivators, we'll all be queuing in the aisles at Waitrose later in the week with our own consumer test!
Top Chefs to Cook for Wounded War Heroes
18th September 2009Paul Gayler, Chef de Cuisine at The Lanesborough has created the event Chefs for Heroes to raise money for the charity Help for Heroes. Paul will lead a team of top chefs as they cook a five course meal to raise funds for troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. Celebrity chefs including Heston Blumenthal, Ainsley Harriott, Antonio Carluccio, Aldo Zilli and Anthony Worrall Thompson have given their support to the project and will be serving the diners on the evening.

Heston Blumenthal and Gordon Ramsay named as the two best restaurateurs in the UK
19th August 2009The Good Food Guide 2010 has awarded the highest possible accolade to Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck Restaurant, awarding only him ten points out of ten for the second year in a row. Gordon Ramsay was given nine points for his flagship restaurant in Cheslea. Again he is the only restaurateur to collect nine points, making Heston and Gordon the two finest chefs in the country.
