Gethin Jones is a fantastic awards host and presenter. Cardiff born Gethin presented Blue Peter for 3 and a half years before leaving CBBC's flagship show in 2008. A former S4C presenter on such programmes as Popty and Uned 5, Gethin won the title of Company “Bachelor of the Year” in 2003. Gethin has presented events such as Mardi Gras in the Wales Millenium Centre, Cardiff, and the BBC Proms in the Park. He became a household name with his dazzling performances in series 5 of Strictly Come Dancing partnering Camilla Dallerup, and he also appeared in the The Live Tour of Strictly in 2009.
Gethin has a grade 8 in violin, Grade 6 in the piano and he was the leader of his county orchestras. Gethin excels at most sports and is also a talented musician. He was Captain of his university rugby union First XV, had trials with Sale RFC and is qualified to fly a plane. He won the Northern British University Sport Association Championships and also represented the Lancashire under 21 teams.
Gethin's time on Blue Peter saw him take on the most extreme, wonderful, scary and strangest challenges of his life. He flew with the Red Arrows and in a WW2 Spitfire. He was attacked by an alligator in Louisiana, and rode the highest, fastest, tallest rollercoasters in the world. Gethin was also the first person to light a candle at Elvis’s vigil to celebrate the 29th Anniversary of his death. One of Gethin's greatest achievements was to become the first civilian (and Blue Peter presenter) to finish the Royal Marine Commando 30 mile Yomp - he finished in a time of 8hrs 20mins… in about 7 pieces!
Since leaving Blue Peter, Gethin has presented a Police Camera Action special for ITV1; Gethin Jones’s Danger Hunters for Virgin1 where he chased deadly weather around the world; E24, a weekly News Entertainment/Showbiz round-up for BBC News; as well as The Gethin Jones Show on Saturday and Sunday mornings on Radio 5 Live. Gethin also narrated and presented BBC’s Young Musician of the Year, live at Cardiff’s Millennium Centre. He has appeared in pantomime, on The One Show, and as a presenter at the Golden Globes Red Carpet Live in 2010.
