During 16 years service with Her Majesty's Royal Marine Commandos Alan Chambers operated in in the deserts, jungles and frozen tundra’s of the planet, travelling the world visiting over forty countries. He is formally qualified as a diver, parachutist, paramedic and ski survival instructor.
Taking this training and focussing the lessons learnt in the harsh environments of the extremes of planet positions Alan Chambers is one of the most inspirational and motivating conference speakers on the corporate and business circuit.
After spending five years researching, planning and training, Alan led the first successful British unsupported expedition from Canada to the Geographic North Pole. After a grueling seventy days on the ice, Alan and team mate, Charlie Paton, raised the Union Jack on top of the world at 23:16 hours on 16th May 2000.
“Alan Chambers was with us all the way through the Ashes, if only from a distance. At every turn he recognised a situation from his journey and related it to that which we were encountering. That was great to know and provided excellent motivation, as well as a frequent good talking point. We used Alan’s analogies in the changing room after we lost the first test.”
Duncan Fletcher, England Ashes Head Coach
More men have walked on the moon than walked to the North Pole unsupported. Only one in one hundred and fifty thousand people ever attempt to walk to the North Pole unsupported. Through determination, guile, resolute planning and motivation they succeeded against all odds. The ten-week expedition, which left the team ten days overdue suffering extreme body weight loss and dwindling food supplies, was a catalyst for the future for Alan.
Upon return from the top of the world Alan, aged 32, was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen for Determined Leadership in Constant Adversity.
He has since returned to the North Pole numerous times, making it possible for men and women to accomplish a dream.
Alan presently delivers tailor-made talks and workshops on many topics including teams, communication, winning beliefs, teamwork and leadership.
“Alan's amazing story highlighting the remarkable focus & leadership he had around the North Pole trip truly inspired the team in their preparation for the Rugby World Cup 2003.”
Martin Johnson, Captain England winning Rugby World Cup Team
The way Alan was able to link an unbelievable expedition to the top of the world with the challenges affecting each of us on a daily basis was truly inspiring. His passion for team work and belief in the power of individual character left the audience feeling like they could overcome anything.”
