ARCHIE NORMAN was born in May 1954. He was educated at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis; Emmanuel College, Cambridge (MA Economics); and Harvard Business School (MBA).

Business Background

Previous employment has included Citibank NA, Partner, McKinsey & Co Plc, Group Finance Director of Kingfisher Plc, Chief Executive of Asda Group Plc and Chairman of Asda Group Plc.

Archie was a Non Executive Director of Geest Plc from, of British Rail, and was a Non Executive Director of Railtrack.

Other positions he has held include UK Retailer of the Year, Yorkshire Businessman of the Year, and a Member of the Cancer Research Board.

He has also previously been a Member of the HM Government Deregulation Taskforce, and a Member of the Anglo-German Deregulation Taskforce.

Member of Parliament

Archie was elected Member of Parliament for Tunbridge Wells.

He was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party, with special responsibility for the reform and renewal programme. In the last 90's he was appointed Chief Executive of the Conservative Party. In a reshuffle, Archie became Shadow Minister for Europe. Soon after he was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Transport and the Regions.
