Duncan Bannatyne, chairman of Bannatyne Group and Dragon thinks that the skills that business people and entrepreneurs possess could be used to great effect in the political arena.
With Sir Alan Sugar due to take an advisory role in the Government as its Enterprise Tsar, Duncan believes that with all his expereince in the business world, Sir Alan has a lot to offer.
As a successful business leader, he's used to managing huge organisations, budgets and teams of employees; what better preparation for a job in politics? Duncan feels that Sir Alan's certainly had more relevant experience than most current MPs. 'It seems that fewer and fewer MPs have the sort of business acumen possessed by the likes of Lord (Michael) Heseltine for example, who is head of the Haymarket publishing group'.
Duncan suggests that now he's heading to the Lords, Alan should break the mould, opening the door for other experienced businessmen to use their expertise in the political world.
If that doesn't work, Duncan suggests an alternative idea: a Dragons' Advisory Board.
the format he suggests is the Prime Minister and his Cabinet 'pitch' their policies to the experts from Dragons' Den before they go public. If that doesn't sort the wheat from the chaff, he said, I don't know what will!
