Craig Sams,  Chairman and one of the founding partners of Green & Black's, knows a thing or two about organics. When he is not busy running his new organic bakery, Judges in Hastings , he is chairman of the Soil Association - the UK 's leading organic body.

Craig's passion for organic, healthy food has been going strong since the 1960's, when he ran a macrobiotic restaurant in London 's Notting Hill - the very first of its kind. Along with his wife Jo Fairley, he ventured into the heavenly world of chocolate back in the early nineties. Craig & Jo have been hailed as 'Britain's coolest organic couple', and are now in demand for speaking engagements across the business and environmental community.

The Green & Black's Message

In telling the story of Green & Black's, they are able to communicate the importance of corporate responsibility, and draw out issues of Fairtrade, and the environmental and socio-economic impact of business in the wider world.  They also use their experience to draw on more traditional messages of marketing and branding along with growth and development in a demanding retail environment.

Green & Black's is undoubtedly one of the best-known brands in retail, and is one of the very few to be fêted both for its quality and ethical credentials.  The chocolate has everything: it's wickedly delicious, it's luxurious, and yet it is also good for the planet and for the people who produce it.

Craig & Jo could never have imagined that Green & Black's would become such a huge success when they started out in Portobello Road back in 1991. Today, they remain true to the original values of their business, with ethical trading & organic products. Their aim continues to be the creation of chocolate products that gives a taste experience like no other.

Cadbury Schweppes

Green & Black's is now owned by Cadbury Schweppes, who are now able to enhance the brand's success by further adding their indepth knowledge of cocoa production to ensure the continued supply of quality, organic cocoa ongoing to support their increasing range of products.

Books

Craig is also the author of many books including "About Macrobiotics" (1972), The Brown Rice Cookbook (1982, new edition 1992), The Little Food Book (1993), Sweet Dreams - The Story of Green & Blacks and the Sams family also published "Seed Magazine - The Journal of Organic Living" from 1972-1977.
