Simon King is a great after dinner and keynote speaker. As one of the world’s leading wildlife film makers, Simon has been involved in filming, presenting and producing natural history films for over 25 years.  He is a natural and charismatic conference speaker drawing parallels between the natural world and the business world.

Simon King on 'Big Cat Diary' and 'Big Cat Week'

Simon both filmed and presented the long running BBC1 series Big Cat Week looking at leopards, lions and cheetahs in the Masai Mara Game Reserve .

Simon has also co presented BBC2's 'Springwatch' and 'Autumnwatch' with Chris Packham and Kate Humble, as well as ‘Britain Goes Wild’ and ‘Wild in your Garden’.

Award Winning Cameraman

His work as a specialist cameraman includes pivotal roles in productions such as ‘Blue Planet’ [which won him an Emmy Award and a BAFTA for best camerawork] and many of the BBC Natural History Unit’s flagship series, from the Natural World [Cheetahs – fast track to freedom/Meercats – part of the team] to the epic ‘Planet Earth’, the most ambitious Natural History production to date.

Simon’s voice is used repeatedly in Natural History and science related productions and his reputation is one of honesty and integrity, both within the industry and with the audience.

Simon King as Keynote and After Dinner Speaker

He is a regular public Speaker, drawing on his extensive knowledge of the Natural World to provide lively and informative presentations, which can be illustrated by his still library archive, or his film imagery.  He is an experienced motivational speaker in the business arena, deploying fun but factual parallels between the world of commerce and the harsh world of survival in the wild.

His diverse professional life has taken him from the raging oceans of the South Atlantic, to the deep freeze of Antarctica, from the great plains of East Africa to the deserts of Australia. He has worked in 6 continents in the most extreme conditions, and has a rich store of tales to tell from each, from the amusing and the inspiring, to the downright frightening!

In 2010 Simon released his own wildlife calendar and continued filming for Springwatch. He was also chosen to appear as a speaker and presenter at the Outdoors Show Live 2010 at the NEC Birmingham.

"The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation is delighted that Simon King has joined the charity as an Honorary Vice President. Simon wealth of knowledge and passion for the natural world has been hugely beneficial - providing guidance, expertise and support. Simon attendance at our fundraising events and his highly emotive and knowledgeable speeches have inspired many to support us in our fight to save endangered wildlife. His passion for his subject never fails to enthral his audience; his value to the foundation is immeasurable. "
wildlife artist and conservationist, David Shepherd CBE

"I first heard Simon at a public wildlife event in East London. He did two hour long talks on the same day, both were sell-outs. The marquee was packed with 300 people for each one, with 100 more outside, desperate to get in. When I heard him speak I understood why they were so keen- he's exactly as he is on TV - warm, informative and witty. The audience loved him and wanted more. It was at that moment I realised I had to sign him up to write a book - which I did."
Non-fiction Publisher at Hodder & Stoughton

"Tusk has staged an annual conservation lecture at the Royal Geographical Society for over 15 years and as one of the charity's patrons Simon's talk will be remembered as being one of the most popular and moving lectures of this series. Such is Simon's popularity, the event was a huge sell out for the charity. His ability to connect with the audience and to speak without notes is a remarkable skill. However it is the combination of his words along with his stunning photography and film footage that leaves his audiences moved and captivated. "
Chief Executive, Tusk Trust

Speakers Corner: How did the corporate speaking all start?

Simon King: I have been speaking in public since I was 18 years old. Many of the presentations I gave then were for charitable bodies and over time these engagements have been bolstered by commercial and corporate events. My work as a television presenter, particularly in the many live programmes I have presented, stands me in good stead for public appearances and speaking.

Speakers Corner: Can you remember your first speaking engagement?

Simon King: I really can’t remember the first- it would have been about 30 years ago!

Speakers Corner: And your last event?

Simon King: I am in the middle of a tour of the UK promoting my book Shetland Diaries and have spoken to over 4,000 people over the past 5 days. This included The Outdoors Show at the NEC- 3 presentations over 3 days- all sold out.

Speakers Corner: Which event has been your favourite and why?

Simon King: I had fun presenting a motivational lecture to IBM using the dynamics of life in a pride of lions to mirror business strategies. Lecturing at the Royal Geographical Society is always a thrill, given its prestigious history.

Speakers Corner: If you could speak at any event, past or future, what would it be

Simon King: I would have liked to have given a presentation at the Kyoto summit to try and motivate world leaders to care for life beyond the next round of votes.

Speakers Corner: Who would you most like to share a platform with

Simon King: I have been lucky enough to share a platform with Sir David Attenborough on a couple of occasions, so this ambition has been realised.

Speakers Corner: On average, how many times a year do you speak at corporate events

Simon King: About 30 plus.

Speakers Corner: Do you use powerpoint

Simon King: Yes.

Speakers Corner: Are you as happy speaking to 50 as to 1,000 people?

Simon King: The number is irrelevant, I simply hone the presentation to suit.

Speakers Corner: How do you like to be introduced

Simon King: Simon King, naturalist and film-maker.

Speakers Corner: Do you always like to do a briefing call before the event

Simon King: A call or notes, I like to have a reasonable understanding of the client.

Speakers Corner: What are the most asked for topics

Simon King: My life in the wild places of the world. Conservation and climate change. How to achieve the ‘impossible’ views/shots of wild creatures.

Speakers Corner: Is your speech at all interactive with audience participation?

Simon King: Yes, some more than others. I enjoy the interaction.

Speakers Corner: Do you have any funny/embarrassing speaking anecdotes you care to share?

Simon King: Hopefully there’s lots of fun in my presentations, lots of laughter- intentionally. I’m not easily embarrassed.

Speakers Corner: Your favourite film?

Simon King: Jean de Florette and Manon de Source, Gladiator, Amelie.

Speakers Corner: Favourite book?

Simon King: The Old man and the Sea- Hemingway, The Peregrine- J Baker, Of Mice and Men- Steinbeck.

Speakers Corner: Favourite holiday destination

Simon King: Don’t do many holidays. Shetland, Shela, BVI (maybe- just about to go there!)

Speakers Corner: What’s your tipple – wine, beer, champagne

Simon King: Champagne and Also Ardbeg whiskey

Speakers Corner: Country or townie?

Simon King: Cosmopolitan Country.
