Mark Jones would happily admit that Sportsmen's dinners and award ceremonies are his specialist subjects; he gets to meet his heroes, gets paid, and, most importantly, he gets fed. Mark has fronted hundreds of events over the years, working with many of his sporting idols; David Beckham, “Freddie” Flintoff, Frank Bruno, Gianfranco Zola, Ian Botham, and Sir Alex Ferguson.
He hosted a very successful “sportsmen’s-dinners-for-the-troops” tour of war-torn Kosovo in 2000 with Jack Charlton, OBE and the late Alan Ball, MBE.
Mark hosted the sell-out “Legends match” (Man Utd vs Man City) at the 21,000 capacity MEN Arena with Sir Alex and Kevin Keegan. This was a charity event for Dependents of New York Firefighters. (Mark was only a few blocks away from the World Trade Center Towers on the morning of 9/11 and reported "live" from the scene for UK radio for several days after).
He’s the regular host (for the past 6 years) of the Masters’ Football Series, shown live on Sky Sports (and hosts the International Masters in Dubai) plus he regularly hosts the Manchester United Player-of-the-Year awards and numerous other prestigious awards ceremonies, corporate events, black-tie charity fundraisers and golf days, etc., throughout the UK (and often beyond), including CRUFTS at the NEC! He’s covered Man Utd and Liverpool American pre-season Tours for UK radio.
Mark Jones is also one of the most experienced radio presenters currently on-air in the UK. Starting as a pimply youth in his hometown at BBC Radio Manchester, he graduated to Liverpool's Radio City, lost his pimples and won several awards, including a prestigious Sony nomination for his hosting of Michael Jackson's Aintree Racecourse concert, (the "biggest solo concert in history") entertaining the crowd of over 125,000. After several very successful years at NW regional station, Century FM, Mark returned to Radio City’s Magic 1548 in Liverpool, and often hosts a daily UK-networked show on the Magic Network; plus he’s regularly heard on Manchester's Magic 1152 (formerly Piccadilly Radio). Not limiting his talents to radio, Mark has written and published several books, including the "Mark Jones’ Birthday Book"; the best seller that became the definitive UK Radio reference book.
An avid sports fan, (the colour green on his TV wears out first) Mark has been seen on the pitch presenting pre-match entertainment at both Liverpool and Everton FC, and spent several seasons at Tranmere Rovers. Mark has featured on Channel 4 and Sky Sports on cricket’s ODI’s, Test Matches and County games around the UK. He presented pre-match interviews with the likes of Botham, Gower, Holding, Richie Benaud and David “Bumble” Lloyd. Mark is often man-on-the-pitch-with-a-microphone at Goodison Park for Everton’s home matches, plus he’s been spotted at Knowsley Road, home of World Club Champions St Helens RLFC, at Headingley for Leeds Rhinos’ games, and is often seen at Old Trafford Cricket Ground for Lancashire CCC’s home games.
