An injury, which prematurely ended Martin Bayfield's glittering rugby playing, led him to find his forte as a speaker.  Martin is an exceptionally funny after dinner speaker and and an excellent motivator.  He is in huge demand for a range of corporate events including company conferences, golf days, gala dinners, award ceremonies, sports dinners etc.

Rugby Career

Upon leaving Bedford School in 1985, Martin joined the Metropolitan Police, whom he served for 4 years before transferring to the Bedfordshire Police in 1989 – time off for Rugby was easier to bribe and the criminals less frightening!!

Whilst playing for the Bedford club, Martin was selected for the England tour to Australia and Fiji in the summer of 1991

It was on this tour that Martin gained the first of his England Caps when he was called in to replace the then England 2nd Row, Wade Dooley, also a policeman, who had broken his hand on an Australian player’s particularly hard head.  On his return to England, Martin transferred from Bedford to Northampton, a club he represented for the rest of his career.

Martin went on to win 31 England Caps between 1991 and 1996, winning two Grand Slams and playing in the 1995 World Cup.  In 1993, he was selected to represent the British Lions in New Zealand and played in all three Tests, and in 1995 he was voted RFU Player of the Year.

A serious neck injury in 1998 ended his career though he still maintains a close link with Rugby and sport in general, and is currently working on various schemes to encourage the participation and education of sport amongst children and young adults.

Corporate Events

Martin is also a regular on the after dinner circuit and as a motivational speaker.  With a natural gift and a charismatic personality, he is not only in great demand as a speaker but also as an MC and Auctioneer, attending functions ranging from local sporting clubs to large corporate events.  A mere 6ft 10in and 20 stone, he is a presence in every sense of the word - whether speaking or not!

Staring in Harry Potter!

Martin has also broadened his horizons to include acting and has been involved in the production of the “Harry Potter” film, an opportunity that came about following a speaking engagement. He was spotted by the film makers during one of his prized after-dinner speeches.
