DEAN RICHARD is the most capped Rugby Union number 8 in the world! He played in 48 Internationals and was in 3 world cup squads, appearing for the Lions in 6 test matches in 1989 and 1993. He changed the way that the game was played from the back row, he ran lines that were considered strange at the time, and had an unprecedented ability to be just where the ball was due to arrive, and do exactly what his team required. Add to this, tactical and leadership ability, and a willingness to be in where the action was the toughest, one can appreciate how much he is missed by the England team of today.

Born and bred in Leicestershire he played for Leicester 314 times, captained them for 4 seasons, and scored more than 100 tries from the back row! He captained the side that won the league titles in 1988 and in 1995.

He retired in 1998 and succeeded Bob Dwyer as Director of Rugby at Leicester Tigers.

In Dean's first year in management he steered Leicester to a convincing domination of the Allied Dunbar premier league.  A fantastic achievement for him in his first year as Director of Rugby. Dean now has 2 Allied Dunbar Championships under his belt.
