Jon Culshaw Biography

Jon Culshaw - Comedian and awards host
Topics:
  • Comedy

Jon Culshaw is regarded as the best impressionist in the UK.  His own series “The Impressionable Jon Culshaw” was broadcast on ITV1 and he has received rave reviews for the BBC 2 TV series "Dead Ringers" that ran for 7 years. As well as being a talented impressionist and comedian, Jon is also in demand as an awards host and after dinner speaker at corporate events

Accolades and Awards

"Dead Ringers" transferred from Radio 4 to television but enjoys equal success as a Radio 4 ongoing series. On television this programme has won the Best Political Satire Award at the Political Studies Association Awards 2004 and on radio it has won the British Comedy Award for Best Radio Comedy, the Sony Gold Radio Academy Award and the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Radio Programme.  This year will see the radio series going into its tenth series.

The unique format of "Alter Ego" was commissioned by ITV and to date has enjoyed three specials. This is Jon's own impressionist show in which he interviews celebrities as themselves. As part of  “Children in Need”, Jon Culshaw was honoured to take part in a sketch as Ozzy Osborne along with the real Ozzy. As well as confusing the audience, at one point even Sharon Osborne was unsure as to which of the Ozzy’s was her husband!

Other television credits include “2DTV” (ITV1), “The National Music Awards” (ITV1), “Christmas with the Stars” (BBC1), "Parkinson" (BBC), "Night of A Thousand Faces" (BBC), "The Royal Variety Performance 2002" (BBC), "The Royal Variety Performance 2001" (ITV) "They Think its All Over" (BBC), "Never Mind the Buzzcocks" (BBC), "Peter Cook, A Posthumous Tribute" (BBC) and "Spitting Image" where he provided the voices to over forty characters.

Film Debut

Jon Culshaw has also made his film debut playing our Prime Minister, Tony Blair, in the movie “Churchill: The Hollywood Years”.  In 2006 he filmed the feature length ‘Lady Godiva Back in the Saddle’.

That William Hague Impression

Jon first made international headlines by calling the switchboard of no. 10 Downing Street and fooling the operators with his 'William Hague' impression.  Jon then found to his delight that he was talking directly to Prime Minster, Tony Blair, live on London's Capital FM, from 10 Downing Street! The incident was even reported in Hansard!  Jon also provided all the impressions for the wind up phone calls heard on Capital FM's "Steve Penk Show", some of which have been produced on CD.

Other radio credits include "It's Been a Bad Week" and "Chris Moyles Drive".

Jon has a catalogue of an estimated 350 impressions.
