A prolific comedienne, writer, pundit and presenter, Sandi Toksvig is much in demand in the corporate sector and is an excellent presenter, after dinner speaker and awards host.

The Highlights

Sandi regularly presents The News Quiz and Excess Baggage  on Radio 4 and has published a great number of children’s and adult books. Sandi has appeared as a panellist on shows such as I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue, QI, Whose Line Is It Anyway, Mock The Week, Have I Got News For You and Call My Bluff. She is the current host of What the Dickens, a Sky Arts quiz show and appears on The One Show. Other TV credits include Question Time, Behind the Headlines and Great Journeys featuring her canoeing down the Zambezi. Sandi also co-wrote the sitcom The Big One, in which she also starred alongside Mike McShane and Island Race, a documentary series co-presented with former Beirut hostage John McCarthy.

The Beginning

Sandi began her career, performing with the Cambridge Footlights, where she was Director/Writer and performed in the first ever all female Cambridge Revue. Following a first-class degree from Cambridge, Sandi went into the theatre, where she both wrote and performed before becoming one of the founder members of the Comedy Store Players.  This early success set the tone for what has been a wonderfully varied and accomplished career - her unique style and sense of humour are sure to liven up any broadcast or event.

Radio

Sandi regularly presents The News Quiz and Excess Baggage. She is also a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4's Loose Ends with Ned Sherrin, and I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue. She also presented a daily lunchtime programme on LBC, where she was joined by a high profile lunch date from the worlds of entertainment, politics or the arts. Sandi took a refreshing and at times irreverent look at the day's top stories plus her unique perspective on issues affecting Londoners.

Theatre

Theatre credits include a season with the Nottingham Playhouse appearing in The Boyfriend, A Little Night Music, Old King Cole and Comedy of Errors. Sandi also spent a season with the New Shakespeare Company at Regents Park and The Pocket Dream which she also co-wrote at the Albery Theatre, London. Most recently, Sandi appeared in Sandi Toksvig’s Christmas Cracker at the Southbank Centre.

Author

Sandi has published a number of children’s and adult books as well as some non fiction. She also writes a weekly column in Seven Magazine (Sunday Telegraph), a monthly column for Good Housekeeping and a monthly column for The Lady.

The 60th anniversary of the Cheltenham Literary Festival will be the biggest festival to date.
9th October 2009Today is the start of the Cheltenham Literature Festival and more than 100,000 people have bought tickets to this year's events. The 60th annual festival, which runs until October 18 at venues across town, includes more than 440 talks, readings and activities by authors, gardeners, comedians, chefs, politicians and explorers and Man Booker Prize winners. There are ten guest directors, including Sir Richard Eyre and Sandi Toksvig, the novelists Monica Ali and Jonathan Coe, Rageh Omaar, the foreign correspondent, and the children’s writer Anthony Horowitz. Today alone, Sebastian Faulks, Ben Fogle and James Cracknell, Jo Brand and Simon Armitage host events.
