Four US based economists found that announcing a celebrity joining a board can boost a company's share price due to the 'visibility effect'. The study's authors admitted they were suprised by the extent to which a celebrity helped boost a business. Jamie Oliver's succesful celebrity/brand partnership with Sainsbury's reportedly earned the supermarket an extra £1.12bn in sales during the first two years of the partnership.
