Myleene Klass is an non-stoppable all-round entertainer. A musician, singer and TV presenter that attracts press column inches whatever she does and wherever she goes. In short, Myleene Klass is a star.
Myleene first shot to fame in the 2001 ITV1 series 'Popstars', the original reality TV music show whose premise was to create a UK pop band. From thousands of singing hopefuls, Myleene was chosen to become one of five members of the controversial yet incredibly successful pop band, Hear'Say.
Hear’Say’s first single “Pure and Simple” entered the charts at No.1, going on to sell over 1 million copies. This was followed by their No.1 album “Popstars”, and another No.1 single “The Way To Your Love”. However, despite a string of hit singles and a nationwide sell out tour, the band split in late 2002 leaving Myleene to pursue a solo career.
In 2003, Myleene signed a solo deal with Universal Classics. The first fruit of this deal was her debut solo classical album “Moving On”. The album was an immediate success. Not only did it enter the classical charts at No.2, the album went on to break records in all genres, entering the popular charts amidst pop and rock artists alike, as well as having the first classical video to be played on 'The Box' and other pop channels. Myleene was also honoured with her first BRIT nomination for album.
But how did Myleene reach such dizzy heights?
Myleene began playing the piano and her grandfather's violin at age of four. She studied Voice at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she also added Harp to her repertoire. After completing her studies Myleene then won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music where she later graduated.
Myleene then worked as a session musician/singer. She says: "I was incredibly fortunate. I got the chance to work with some of the most remarkable artists on a daily basis and learn from them. The diversity of the music I encountered each day is every musicians dream."
Diverse is an understatement. Myleene toured with the likes of K.D.Lang, Robbie Williams, Cliff Richard and Michael Crawford to name but a few. Her West End debut followed rapidly afterwards as she joined the cast of “Miss Saigon”. "I enjoyed being part of an ensemble. Miss Saigon is such an epic show and I had so much fun. It’s such an emotional and rewarding show to be a part of."
It was after treading the boards that Myleene auditioned for 'Popstars', and the rest is music history.
Myleene adds: "I have been lucky to have experienced every facet of the entertainment industry. I see myself as an entertainer. I adore playing the piano and singing, locking myself away and learning sonatas but I equally enjoy meeting people, presenting, acting and writing. I would never like to be pigeonholed as I feel this limits your capabilities and doesn't engage or broaden your mind".
September 2005 saw Myleene take up the role of presenter on hit ITV1 Saturday morning music show cd:uk. Myleene hosted the show for six consecutive months interviewing a broad range of top music names from 50 Cent to Westlife.
Relatively recently she has been seen presenting roles on BBC1’s “Heaven and Earth Show” the BBC’s coverage of “The Proms,” the “All Star Talent Show” on Channel 5, “Ghost Towns” for Living TV and co-star of BBC1's "One Show" with Adrian Chiles.
In addition, Myleene also hosts the breakfast show every Sunday from 7am-9am on Classic FM, the UK’s favourite classical music station. The show features two hours of Myleene’s favourite pieces of music, providing the perfect soundtrack to Sunday mornings.
With her exotic looks (her mother is Filipino, her father Austrian/English) and her passion for the entertainment industry, Myleene is a girl made more articulate and feisty by her experiences. One thing is for certain, we are going to be hearing a lot more from this eloquent young woman for many years to come.
