Political economist & international speaker Bjorn Lomborg believes we are sending wrong messages about climate change to our children

22nd June 2009

A director of the Copenhagen Consensus, adjunct professor at the Copenhagen Business School and international keynote speaker, Bjorn Lomborg has repeatedly been hailed as one of the most influential people of our time and recentlty Esquire Magazine included him in the top 75.

He is the author of The Skeptical Environmentalist and Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist's Guide to Global Warming and in a recent article in the Guardian, he sets out his case for less propoganda and more action.  He passionately believes that scare stories and exagerations about climate change are hugely detrimental, particulrly amongst children and calls for a more reasoned and hopeful debate from the politicians and the media.

He believes that exagerations do plenty of harm.  He says "Worrying excessively about global warming means that we worry less about other things, where we could do so much more good. We focus, for example, on global warming's impact on malaria – which will be to put slightly more people at risk in 100 years – instead of tackling the half a billion people suffering from malaria today with prevention and treatment policies that are much cheaper and dramatically more effective than carbon reduction would be."
