Sarah Pennells Biography

Sarah Pennells - Conference facilitator and awards host
Topics:
  • Finance & Economics
  • TV/Radio Presenter
  • Women

SARAH PENNELL'S career as a financial journalist began on BBC Radio 4 in 1993 where she worked on the weekly personal finance programme 'Moneybox' as a producer and reporter. She was also series producer of Moneybox's sister programme 'Inside Money' and was the first member of the team to take the financial advisers' qualification the Financial Planning Certificate.

Business Television Presenter

She went freelance in 1999 and since then has shown she is not afraid to tackle challenging subjects; turning them into well-informed, intelligent pieces accessible to a wide audience.

Sarah is a regular member of the business reporting team on BBC1's 'Breakfast' programme and has contributed to several other personal finance and business programmes on the BBC including BBC2's 'Working Lunch', 'Business Today' on BBC News 24 and 'World Business Report' on BBC World.

Radio

Sarah is also a regular and well-respected contributor to Radio 4's consumer programme 'You and Yours'. She is equally at ease turning round news stories within a tight deadline as she is working on longer, in-depth features. Her radio style is clear, concise and informative.

Journalist

Sarah started writing personal finance articles while still working for the BBC; initially for the London Evening Standard Homes and Property supplement. Since then she has established a reputation as a print journalist writing for a wide range of newspapers and magazines including 'Moneywise', 'The Lady', 'Evening Standard Homes and Property, 'Financial Mail on Sunday', 'Saturday Independent', 'Saturday Telegraph', 'Shares' and 'Woman and Home'.

Sarah has acted as a panelist, chaired conferences and written an independent guide on investments.

She is known as something of an expert on flat-owning and leasehold issues and was chosen by the Association of Residential Managing Agents (ARMA) to chair their annual conference for three years running.

This involved introducing government ministers and well-known legal experts in their field and - crucially - making sure the events ran to time. Not as easy as you might think if speakers are reluctant to step down from the stage, but Sarah likes a challenge!

She also has taken part in panel discussions on women and finance, for Money Marketing and the role of independent financial advisers, organised by HSBC
