Ian Robertson Biography

Ian Robertson - After dinner speaker and awards host
Topics:
  • Sport

For the last 25 years in his capacity as BBC Rugby Correspondent, he has covered all the great rugby matches all over the world.  IAN ROBERTSON is also a master of dialect and accents making him one of the most entertaining after dinner speakers on the corporate events circuit.   He has a wealth of funny stories and anecdotes and will, undoubtedly, make any event memorable for any audience.

Early Days

Ian Robertson was educated at Aberdeen University and Cambridge University and he won his rugby ‘Blue’ at both.  He went on to play for London Scottish and the Barbarians and he won 8 international caps for Scotland

Rugby Commentator

He has appeared regularly on our screens for over 20 years on Rugby Special and Grandstand and spent several years in the 80’s as Rugby Correspondent of the Sunday Times.

Prolific Author

Ian has written over 30 books, including the ghosted autobiographies of Bill Beaumont and Andy Irvine, two books with Gareth Edwards and the family biography of Richard Burton.  To persuade Elizabeth Taylor to write the foreword to this book, he was forced to spend a whole week with Miss Taylor in Hollywood!

And the rest...

In the summer he masquerades as an expert on horse racing for BBC Radio and over the years he has had numerous tiny shares in a succession of very slow horses lacking any sort of ambition.

Ian is a keen golfer and is delighted to speak at Golf Dinners.
