One of the UK’s best-known economists, Roger Bootle runs the consultancy, Capital Economics, which specialises in macroeconomics and the economics of the property market.  He is also Economic Adviser to Deloitte, an Adviser to the Bahrain-based Gulf Finance House, a Specialist Adviser to the House of Commons Treasury Committee, a Visiting Professor at Manchester Business School, a member of the Shadow Monetary Policy Committee and an Honorary Actuary.  He was formerly Group Chief Economist of HSBC and, before the change of government, he was a member of the former Chancellor’s panel of Independent Economic Advisers, the so-called “Wise Men”. Roger is currently in huge demand as a speaker at business gatherings around the world

A Career in the City

Roger Bootle studied at Oxford University where he gained a first class degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and a B. Phil in Economics.  He then became a Lecturer in Economics at St Anne’s College, Oxford.  Most of his subsequent career has been spent in the City of London where he has gained a reputation as an original and forthright analyst and forecaster with a record of success over 25 years.

A Successful Author

Roger has written many articles and several books on monetary economics.  In October 2009, he released the book 'The Trouble with Markets' which was selected as one of Management Today's books of 2009

His book Money for Nothing, has been translated into 3 languages and in the US won the Independent Publishers’ Business Book of the Year award.  This followed the success of The Death of Inflation, published in 1996, which became a best-seller, was subsequently translated into nine languages and won for Roger an international reputation as a profound and radical thinker.  Initially dismissed as extreme, The Death of Inflation is now widely recognised as prophetic.  Roger is also joint author of the book Theory of Money, and author of Index-Linked Gilts.

Roger was formerly a regular columnist for The Times and The Sunday Telegraph and now writes a regular column on Mondays for The Daily Telegraph.  He also appears frequently on television and radio.

Roger's expertise on World and European economics is a valuable source of information for decision makers around the globe. His analysis and insight in to the economic landscape will be of huge interest and benefit to business leaders. Engaging, informative and witty, Roger is a highly sought-after keynote and conference speaker.
