Kate Silverton is a hugely popular member of the News presenting team. An experienced conference facilitator and awards host, Kate brings a professional, charming and engaging presence to any event
She is an experienced and extremely versatile journalist. This past year alone she has reported from Iraq, Lesotho, Los Angeles for the 2007 Oscars as well as the Glastonbury Festival and the 25th Falklands Commemorations.
Kate has also reported for three Panorama programmes:
She received much acclaim for her presentation of the prime time BBC 1 programme "Ultimate Wild Water" in which she overcame a fear of open water to tackle some of the most notorious waters in Britain by kayak.
In 2006 she reported on the commemoration of the 7/7 bombings from Tavistock square.
Kate has had a varied career - working as a corporate financier in the City before changing direction to work in the media. She trained as a broadcast journalist with the BBC in Newcastle.
From her traffic and travel days for BBC Radio Newcastle, she built up a loyal fanbase of 'jambusters' who helped create exclusive news stories, then through to the BBC political programme North of Westminster where she met and interviewed many political figures including Peter Mandelson and the late Mo Mowlam.
Kate was later recruited by Tyne Tees Television to work as a reporter and newsreader alongside the region's iconic anchorman Mike Neville for the main evening news.
