Dougie Donnelly gained a Law Degree at Strathclyde University, is renowned as a professional and personable presenter and host of corporate dinners, awards ceremonies, promotional events, sales conferences and corporate videos and is also in constant demand as an entertaining after dinner speaker. Among companies that have engaged Dougie are Norwich Union, Ford, Barratt Homes, ScottishPower, Bank of Scotland and BAA to name but a few.

Away from broadcasting Dougie Donnelly remains a sport enthusiast, he is a keen golfer, playing and speaking at corporate golf events throughout the UK.

Dougie Donnelly is one of the BBC’s top television sports presenters and, since joining the BBC in 1978, he has been involved with a wide variety of major network sporting productions including presenting the BBC’s premier sport programme GRANDSTAND. In Scotland he is perhaps most associated with the sport he has presented and reported on for more than twenty years, FOOTBALL, while the rest of the UK will know Dougie better through his fifteen year presentation of GOLF and SNOOKER.

During this time Dougie Donnelly has built a rapport with the players, officials and fans from all sides of the sporting spectrum giving him some wonderful anecdotes to entertain and amuse audiences in his role as after dinner speaker and/or master of ceremonies at events throughout the UK.

Football has been one of Dougie Donnelly's main focuses of Dougie’s presenting live games from European Competitions, the SPL, Scottish Cup and Internationals. Golf also features heavily in Dougie's schedule having covered both the Masters and the Open and having interviewed some the World’s top players including Tiger Woods, Nick Price, Ernie Els, Seve Ballesteros, Greg Norman and, his long time friends, Colin Montgomerie and Lee Westwood to name a few.

Dougie Donnelly has covered five Olympic Games, three Summer two Winter, where he famously commentated on the British Ladies Curling team winning Gold. He has has travelled extensively during his time with the BBC covering some of the World’s major sporting events, over and above the Olympic and Commonwealth Games he has presented two World Cup Tournaments and three European Championship.

He has also produced, written and presented a variety of sell through video biographies for sporting personalities including Gavin Hastings and Ally McCoist, Lubo Moravcik and Paul Gascoigne.

Away from Sport

While Dougie Donnelly has established himself as a sports presenter his versatility is underlined by his presentation of non-sporting programmes, including two series of his own chat show for BBC Scotland, which included a one off special with Billy Connolly, and quiz shows for both ITV and BBC. He was also an award winning disc jockey on Radio Clyde where he presented the station's most listened to midweek programme, the mid-morning show. During this time he was named ‘Scottish Television Personality of the Year’ and ‘Radio Personality of the Year’ on three occasions.

16th December 2009The Telegraph is conducting an online poll to discover what its readers think was the greatest sporting moment of the last decade. Young Sports Personality of the Year - the final three named
27th November 2009Tom Daley, Jodie Williams and Heather Watson will battle it out for the title of Young Sports Personality of the Year. World diving champion Tom Daley, double world youth sprint gold medallist Jodie Williams and girls' junior US Open winner Heather Watson were chosen from a shortlist of 10. The 2008 award was won by swimmer Eleanor Simmonds, who won two gold medals at the Paralympics in Beijing. The three finalists were chosen by a panel chaired by John Inverdale. The panel members included Jake Humphrey, Helen Skelton, Ore Oduba, and previous Young Sports Personality of the Year winners Kate Haywood and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey. The winner will be announced live on the Sports Personality of the Year show on Sunday 13 December 2009.

4th November 2009Record-breaking triathlete and Ironman champion Chrissie Wellington has been named Sunday Times sportswoman of the year for 2009. The 32-year-old from Norfolk, who took her third straight Ironman world title last month, won the Sunday Times award after four weeks of online voting. Chrissie, a long-distance triathlon specialist who set a new world record time this year, beat Jessica Ennis, Britain's world heptathlon champion to the title. Cyclist Victoria Pendleton came third behind Chrissie and Jessica.
