Boris Johnson launches cycling initiatives

Alongside the plans for Freewheel and more localised cycling events, other plans due to be announced today by Boris Johnson will include

  • A pledge to create an extra 66,000 bike parking places in London by 2012
  • Creation of twelve cycle “super-highways” linking outer London to the centre.
  • Plans for 6,000 bikes in a cycle hire scheme, with 400 “docking stations” in central London.

Boris Johnson was joined at the launch in Trafalgar Square by keen cyclist and Olympic rowing gold medal holder James Cracknell and children from local schools.
