David Magliano launches marketing campaign for FA's 2018 World Cup bid

23rd June 2009

With the 2010 World Cup scheduled for South Africa and the tournament likely to be in South America for 2014, England has an outstanding chance to host the 21st FIFA World Cup, but there is likely to be strong competition from Australia, Mexico, Holland/Belgium, Spain & China.

Fresh from his huge success at winning the 2012 Olympic bid for London, David Magliano is Director of Commercial & Marketing for England 2018 and has launched the campaign to bring the World Cup back to England for the first time in 52 years.

England has excellent existing Premier stadiums and potential new arenas that the opposition are unlikely to be able to match. After the next two tournaments into the relative unknown of South Africa and South America, FIFA may want to bring the tournament home to a developed nation. Europe may also hold an additional advantage, offering broadcasters a time-zone preferable to their largest market.  Whatever the advantages England has, David Magliano and his team will have their work cut out over the next year or so.
