Dr Aidan Halligan was the first NHS Director of Clinical Governance and Deputy Chief Medical Office for England.  An excellent, insightful keynote speaker, his experiences of working for the NHS and private medical companies ensure his speeches resonate to any businesses with the messages he delivers.

A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Aidan Halligan was appointed Professor of Fetal-Maternal Medicine at the University of Leicester and Head of Obstetric Services at Leicester Royal Infirmary in 1997. He’s Chief of Safety, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Director of Education, University College London Hospitals NHS Trust.

NHS Director of Clinical Governance

In 1999, he was invited to become the first Director of Clinical Governance for the National Health Service and formed the Leicester-based NHS Clinical Governance Support Team to translate the vision of clinical governance into a nationwide reality.

From January 2003 until October 2005, he served in the UK Department of Health as Deputy Chief Medical Office for England, with responsibility for issues of clinical governance, patient safety and quality of care across the NHS in England. In that role, he was joint Senior Responsible Officer for the National Programme for IT, and the senior director sponsor of the Healthcare Commission, National Patient Safety Agency and National Institute for Clinical Excellence.

Reform & Leadership in Healthcare Organisations

In July 2006, Professor Halligan became Executive Chairman of Elision Health, an enterprise formed to accelerate reform and leadership in healthcare organisations.

He has addressed medical audiences with keynote speeches on motivation, teamwork, service excellence and change in the industry and has recently been taking the lessons from the NHS and medical profession and applying these to other industries and major blue chip companies.  Aidan has been at the heart of one of the biggest employees in the UK and gives insights into both medical and business practices.

The Sunday Times Business Person of Year - The Finalists
23rd December 2009The Sunday Times has announced its list of contenders for their annual Business Person of the Year award. The finalists have shown true grit and determination - many have hauled their businesses through a rather perilous time unscathed and are survivors in the business world. The contenders are Angela Ahrendts (pictured left), Ross Brawn, Frank Chapman, Richard Cousins, Founders of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone and Evan Williams, Steve Jobs, Sam Laidlaw, Alan Mulally, Kate Swann, and John Varley.
BSkyB is Britain's most admired company 2009
2nd December 2009Media firm BSkyB landed the top spot in Management Today's Britain's Most Admired Companies awards on monday night. Led by CEO Jeremy Darroch, the organisation is one of the youngest to be handed the accolade, topping each of the nine criteria to secure the award. Matthew Gwyther, editor of Management Today said: 'It (BSkyB) is barely more than a stripling upstart amongst the great names of UK business, some of which have been around for centuries in one form or another. It has shown that a class-leading product, well marketed and slickly delivered, can continue to grow and prosper even in the most challenging circumstances.' Tesco and Johnson Mathey took the second and third slots respectively, with Cadbury, GlaxoSmithKline and Rolls-Royce trailing at numbers four, five and six.
