Davina McCall is a great presenter and awards host, best known for presenting the UK edition of Big Brother and working as a presenter on MTV early in her career.

Davina's Life in the Beginning

Davina McCall was born on 16 October 1967 in London. She attended the Godolphin and Latymer Girls School, an independent school in Hammersmith, London.

Davina’s earliest passion was music; at the age of 15 while studying for her nine O levels and later two A levels, McCall sang professionally with a band, went solo at the age of 19, produced demo music discs, and ran many successful nightclubs in London. She even appeared in Kylie Minogue’s music video ‘Word is Out’!!

Davina's First TV Break

Davina McCall got her first TV break in 1992 when she landed a job presenting her own show on MTV. In 1995 she went on to host the ITV game show God's Gift which she presented for 3 years, before becoming the anchor presenter on Streetmate (Channel 4. 1998-2000) and prime-time cult show, Don’t Try This at Home on ITV1 in 1998.

Davina McCall on Big Brother

In 2000, Davina was chosen to present the hugely popular Channel 4 reality show Big Brother, which she has continued ever since, hosting all nine series of Big Brother (with series 10 starting in June) and all five of Celebrity Big Brother. The same year, Davina married Matthew Robertson and went on to have three children: Holly, Tilly and Chester.

Davina McCall as Presenter and Awards Host

Following her success in the cult reality show, Davina went on to present the Brit Awards in 2001, as well as BBC charity show Comic Relief. 2002 saw her hosting Popstars: The Rivals (ITV1) followed by The Vault and in 2003, Oblivious (both ITV1) and the reality TV show Reborn in the USA. She also hosted The Brit Awards for a second time in 2003.

In 2004 Davina hosted the new ITV1 prime time show Love on a Saturday Night and later that year, Davina was chosen to present the prestigious BAFTA television awards.

In December 2005 it was announced that she would be hosting her own BBC One prime-time chat show called Davina which aired in early 2006. Shortly afterwards, ITV1 signed up McCall to host the BAFTA Television Awards for the second time. Soon after, Davina became the main presenter on Sport Relief on BBC One alongside friend Chris Evans.

Davina went on to star in BBC documentary Let's Talk Sex, looking at how sex education is taught in Britain (one of the countries of Europe with the highest teenage pregnancy levels), compared with The Netherlands (which has one of the lowest teenage pregnancy rates in Europe). She has also published a book under the same title. Such was the power of her work on this topic, sex and relationship education will now form a part on the UK curriculum.

She has also turned her hand at acting, appearing in Sam's Game(2001), a Friends-style TV sitcom, as well as Leigh Francis comedy sketch shows Bo Selecta and A Bear's Tail. McCall provided the voice of an android version of herself for the Doctor Who episode "Bad Wolf" in 2005, and played herself as a human and subsequently as a bloodthirsty zombie in Dead Set in 2008.

Davina became the face of Garnier in 2007, and has produced several exercise DVDs alongside her personal trainers, Mark and Jackie Wren, including Superbody Workout, High Energy Five, The Power of Three and My Three 30-Minute Workouts. Her DVDs have sold nearly a million copies to date! Number six went on sale in December 2009.

Davina returned for the tenth series of Big Brother on Channel 4 in June 2009, and in January 2010 started presenting the brand new prime time entertainment show Got to Dance on Sky 1 HD. She presented Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother's Efourum in 2010, as well as taking part in BBC One's Sport Relief: Million Pound Bike Ride.

Need Help Finding a Speaker?

Client Comments

Michael Goldhill was extremely helpful and went out of his way to find a speaker who suited our event. Good choice given to us, I think we should have taken the risk and gone with someone we had never used before rather than using somone we had to be safe (albeit he was very good).
