Stan Taylor is one of the most sought-after top professional after dinner speakers in the country. Life President of the Comedians’ Golfing Society, Stan has been a full-time speaker for almost 20 years and travels all around the country and abroad speaking at major company dinners, trade and industry association banquets, sportsman’s dinners, round table functions (over 600 of these) – in fact there is hardly any major town or city anywhere that Stan hasn’t appeared.
His chief claim to fame, however, is the hilarious ‘submarine sketch’ based on Stan’s experiences as a submarine officer. He served in the Royal Navy from 1941 to 1959, during the war in submarines, serving in the Atlantic, the Med and the Far East. Returning to Singapore as Signals Liaison Officer to the Malaysian Navy in 1950 to ‘52. Back in Britain he was a senior instructor at HMS Mercury, the Navy communications head quarters near Petersfield.
Stan draws heavily on his own experiences and, for a man who spent a year as PoW in Singapore, was posted missing twice after his ships went down and then losing the sight of one eye in an archery contest, he has plenty to recount.
Stan, originally from Yorkshire always adapts to the occasion and can boast an amazing array of accents and dialects. His deep and distinctive dulcet tones have been exceedingly good news, especially for Mr Kipling’s cake advertisements on television, but he is as well known on the after dinner circuit, where his inimitable style has gained him many plaudits.
“In my book – one of the very best in Britain because of the marvellous dialects and the submarine saga!”
Jimmy Tarbuck
“Without the slightest doubt you were the best after dinner speaker we have ever had going back as far as I can remember. For my part, as Chairman, I feel honoured that in my year I was fortunate enough to have you with me. My sympathy goes to the Chairman next year who has an impossible act to follow with the speaker.”
Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
“The fact that you received a standing ovation speaks volumes!”
Dundee United Business Club
“At last I have heard the Submarine Story and I can die a happy man! It was all I had been led to believe and the rest of the act was terrific. Thank you for an absolutely splendid performance.”
