Mariella Frostrup is a superb conference facilitator and awards host, a stalwart of television, radio and journalism.
1998/99 has seen Mariella Frostrup chairing BBC2’s Bridget Jones night “Singletons” and Channel 4’s discussion ‘Censorship”. She was asked to be the public image of Mastercard as they took over sponsorship of the BRITS in 1999. She also hosted the Empire Film Awards in February 99 and was asked to join the judging panel for the Orange Book Awards for 98/99.
While Mariella continues to write and present her weekly arts magazine show ‘Frostrup’ for Channel 5 (as well as producing it through her own production company, Brazen Husky) featuring such guests as Angus Deayton, Salman Rushdie, Oliver Stone, Jasper Conran, Damien Hurst, Sir Richard Eyre, and Michael Palin, she also continues to be the film critic for the News of the World.
Mariella Frostrup was born in Oslo, bought up in Ireland and has lived in London since the age of sixteen.
Her television debut was in 1989 when she presented the first series of Channel Four’s ‘Big World’. She was retained to present the second series with Andy Kershaw.
Mariella then presented and wrote ‘At the Pictures’, a weekly review of cinema releases for Sky Movies. It was during this time that she presented, co-wrote and researched her first series of ‘Video View. This programme ran for more than two years.
In 1991 and 92 Mariella went on to co-present Anglia Television’s ‘Relationships’, a live programme featuring interviews dealing with all aspects of personal relationships, from rape within marriage to astrological dating.
She has made two television specials about Nigel Kennedy – the award winning ‘Four Seasons’ and ‘Nigel Plays Brunch’. She has been involved in a variety of other projects for television and radio including ‘Passengers’ a series of travel programmes for Rapido Television; ‘Notes and Queries’ and ‘Newman and Baddiel in Pieces’ for BBC TV; ‘First Reaction’ and ‘Sex in the Movies’ for Mentorn Films; ‘Sunday Brunch’ with Simon Fanshawe for Radio 5 and a special report on Bob Marley for Radio 4’s ‘Kaleidoscope.
Mariella is constantly being asked to write newspaper and magazine articles, frequently on her favourite pastimes i.e. tennis and scuba diving. She has interviewed many of the top names in the music and film worlds including Paul McCartney, Tom Berenger, Sigourney Weaver, Timothy Dalton, Phil Collins, Sharleen & Texas and George Michael. She was a regular panellist on the BBC’s ‘Going for a Song’ hosted by Michael Parkinson and is a regular guest on Parkinson’s Sunday morning BBC radio programme.
For six months Mariella wrote a highly successful and contentious column for The Sunday Times as well as broadcasting her radio show on GLR. She hosted the hugely successful late night series, ‘The Little Picture Show’ for Carlton and ‘Looks Who’s Talking’ which Carlton broadcast as a pilot in 1994 and which consequently ran to second series.
Mariella is also one of the country’s most sought after voice over artists.
