Nick Baker presented the Really Wild Show on the BBC for nine years, he has since go on to present and star in numerous other wildlife shows.  A fascinating and insightful after dinner and inspirational speaker, Nick is comfortable speaking in front of audiences of all size

Television presenter

Nick graduated from the University of Exeter in 1993 with a degree in Biological Sciences and almost straight away his passion for natural history was translated onto our screens

In an exclusive presenting commitment to the Channel, Nick has most recently co-presented ‘Pirate Ship Live’ and ‘Killer Shark Live’ as well as two series of the successful “Weird Creatures” (Icon Films). 

From 1996-2005 Nick presented on the BBC’s cult animal programme, 'The Really Wild Show', travelling around the globe several times in search of the weird and the wonderful.
He also appeared in 'Under The Skin'  where Nick literally attempted to get under the skin of animals such as grizzly bears, penguins, rattlesnakes and rhinos - examining their habitats and behaviour in his own unique way (2002)

He was co-presenter on the BBC2 show 'Watchout' with Simon King

Nick worked on two science series. In Twister and he chased tornadoes across America and he joined the presenting team of the cult science series, Tomorrow's World presenting both reports and live studio (1999)

In recent years Nick has enjoyed an international profile through his presence on National Geographic.  In the early years, Five’s Nick’s Quest programme was a co-production with Nat Geo but more recently he was one of their intrepid explorers, reporting from remote parts of the globe for Ultimate Explorer (2001-2)

Author and Journalist

Nick is a regular contributor to Radio 4's The Natural History Programme and writes for an impressive array of publications including: the BBC Wildlife Magazine; Wildlife Watch; RSPB's Bird and Birdlife Magazines; the Young Telegraph; The Bug Club Magazine; National Trust magazine;Wild About Animals and FBX Magazine.

He is also a celebrated author with Harper Collins.  Books include:- Nick Baker’s Bug Book, The Natural History Almanac for the UK.

Interests

Nick is a competitive cyclist, a self-taught harmonica player, percussionist and singer who regularly performs in jazz and blues bands. 

Nick lives on Dartmoor along with a growing menagerie of small animals including spiders, scorpions, stick insects, amphibians, reptiles, butterflies and moths. He keeps pet leeches in the fridge at home and often feeds them by attaching them to his leg! Among his favourites are cane toads and a collection of hissing cockroaches. As a field naturalist, he has been involved in research into the high brown Fritillary butterfly on Dartmoor and with badgers, also in Devon.

Corporate Commitments

Charitable organizations which Nick is involved with include:-

  • The Bug Club (Co-founded of Exeter University's national Bug Club)
  • Royal Entomological Society's Youth Development Committee (member)
  • RSPB (regularly works to raise the profile and work of the RSPB)

Nick also tours schools with his animals, educating children in natural history basics. He is incredibly popular for PAs and public-speaking engagement due to his passion and knowledge of natural history.
