Neil Laughton is leading a team of adventurers to retrace the steps of Operation Frankton – one of WW2’s most gruelling raids.
The Operation consisted of a unit of Royal Marines being sent to a port of Bordeaux which was Nazi occupied to bomb ships.
Laughton’s team was dropped off at exactly the same point the marines left their submarines in canoes. They face the 30 mile paddle along the river against the current followed by a 100 mile walk to the hotel from which the survivors of the original operation were rescued.
The expedition will raise money for the Stroke Association and the Royal Marines Charitable trust.
