The Guardian has compiled a list of Britain’s top 300 intellectuals. Amongst the newspaper’s register of public figures leading the UK’s cultural discourse, are a handful of Speakers Corner’s elite. Amongst the intellectuals are authors, economists, historians, journalists, lawyers, philosophers, policy advisers, politicians, religious leaders, and scientists.
Authors Charles Leadbeater and Simon Singh are seen to be leading lights in the literary world, and economists Howard Davies and Noreena Hertz are highlighted as shining stars in their field. Historians Niall Ferguson, Lisa Jardine, Simon Schama and David Starkeyall received the accolade for their prominent position in our society; and journalists Matthew D’Ancona, Daniel Finkelstein, Andrew Marr and Robert Peston have been recognised for their insightful analysis of the times we live in.
Clive Anderson has been recognised for his services to the legal world, and the philosopher Alain de Botton is featured as a leader in his field.
Policy Advisers feature prominently, including Anthony Adonis and Adair Turner, alongside Baroness Shirley Williams.
Recognised leading lights in science are Brian Cox, Marcus Du Sautoy and Robert Winston.
