Anneka Rice Biography

Anneka Rice is an accomplished TV presenter whose experience makes her suitable to host at any awards ceremony

At only 19 years of age, with two years of production experience for the BBC, Anneka resigned and decided to move to Hong Kong. In Hong Kong she worked for a PR company during the day and spent her evenings presenting the news on TVB Pearl. She wrote a successful book called ‘A Children’s Guide to Hong Kong.’ and produced a weekly motoring show for RTHK called ‘Wheelbase’.

When Anneka returned to the UK three years later, she became famous as the sky runner in one of Channel 4’s most popular programmes, ‘Treasure Hunt’ and in 1986 the show was nominated for a BAFTA. In the 80’s and 90’s, Anneka was a permanent fixture on our screens, presenting ‘Children in Need’, ‘Sporting Chance’, ‘Wish You Were Here’, ‘Driving Force’ and numerous other programmes.

Her next project was called ‘Challenge Anneka’ and ran for 5 years on BBC 1; the idea of the show was to set challenges for Anneka to complete within a certain amount of time.  The challenges that were given to Anneka were usually in aid of a charitable cause.

After completing 61 challenges, Anneka decided to take some time away from the spotlight and enjoy some time with her three sons, during this time she chose to study at Chelsea College of Art. She has since returned to the public eye, appearing the BBC 1 drama ‘Absolute Power’ alongside Stephen Fry. She has also presented ‘The Wright Stuff’ for C5 and ‘A Brush with the Wild’ for ITV. In 2001 she helped to develop the ‘Challenge’ programme for ABC network in the US, with Erin Brokovich as her US equivalent.

Anneka has done a lot of radio work and was a regular substitute for Radio 2; in 2012 she replaced Zoe Ball on Radio 2’s Weekend Breakfast show.
