Dave Birss Biography

Dave Birss is a creative and strategic thinker with nearly 20 years experience of marketing communications. He’s a keynote speaker on subjects such as creativity, advertising and branding, and transmedia.

Background and career

He’s been a stand-up comedian, nude model, session musician, farmhand, busker, veterinary assistant, dishwasher, composer, illustrator, breakfast show DJ, photographer, graffiti artist, poet and university lecturer. Somewhere in this journey he discovered advertising and ended up becoming the Creative Director of some of the UK’s most respected agencies. And recently he’s changed career again to start up a training company that teaches ad agencies and brands how to operate in the ever-changing media landscape.

Not able to confine himself to doing just one thing, Dave also hosts the Future of Advertising Podcast where he interviews marketing’s movers and shakers to find out where the future lies for the industry. He has recently started an education think-tank for the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising. He’s also trying to make the internet dyslexia-friendly, is a board adviser for a number of businesses, is starting a couple of internet ventures and produces some of the most useless and frivolous pieces of nonsense on the web.

Dave trots around the globe speaking on a variety of subjects. Most recently he’s spoken to the music industry in Reykjavik, the mobile industry in Chantilly, the advertising industry in New York and the communications industry all over the UK. He’s known for inspiring audiences with his passion and sense of humour, and for his ability to explain complicated topics with simplicity.
