Emily Maitlis Biography
Emily Maitlis is one of the most recognized faces on BBC television news, and is one of Speakers Corner’s most popular awards hosts and presenters.
As well as presenting Newsnight on BBC2 and the Ten and One o clock bulletins on BBC1, she has worked alongside David Dimbleby and presented US Presidential election coverage from Washington. She has also made documentaries about Facebook, Donald Trump, Nicolas Sarkozy and Barbie.
In 2011 Emily secured an exclusive television interview with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, and has interviewed major political figures including Bill Clinton, Henry Kissinger, and Christine Lagarde and all of the last four UK prime ministers. She has also interviewed key sporting figures, entertainment faces, and business bods, including David Beckham, Hugh Grant, George Soros. Emily is currently working on a new US documentary.
She has written for the Spectator, the Sunday Times the Guardian and the Sun – and is comfortable moderating all areas of UK/Euro economics, politics, current affairs and finance.
Before joining the BBC - where she originally became the face of London news - she was the Sky News Business correspondent. She spent six years working in the Far East and reporting from China, Cambodia and the Philippines.
Emily speaks French, Spanish and Italian.
