Humphrey Walters Biography
Top leadership and teamwork expert Humphrey Walters uses his experience of the world's toughest yacht race, and his work with the England rugby team, in his keynote and after dinner speeches, focusing on teamwork, leadership, and motivation.
Background and career
The BT Global Challenge is a ten month 33,000 mile epic across the cruellest and unmerciful seas of the world. Sailing an Ocean Rover taught Humphrey more about human nature and brotherhood than 30 years in business. Humphrey now uses his experiences in the yacht race to motivate and inspire.
The event mirrored the day-to-day happenings of today's modern business where company survival depends on inspired, sound leadership, personal motivation and quality teamwork.
Humphrey said "I learnt what really works, and perhaps more importantly how to apply the lessons to everyday life."
The yachts could be seen to represent competitive organisations, the crew were the employees, and the unpredictable oceans were the complex environment in which they operate.
For London 2012, Humphrey worked with Sir Clive Woodward and the Olympic Judo team to achieve unwarranted success with a swathe of medals.
Humphrey has also co-founded MaST International - a worldwide organisation devoted to the development of Management and Skills Training for individuals, teams and organisations, and has written extensively about High Performing Teams and Leaders and co-authored the book 'Global Challenge' - a study of Leadership and Teambuilding.
He also works with the England rugby team, which won the World Cup in 2003, as well as premier division football teams, schools, businesses, Government departments, Industry and professional bodies. He is heavily involved in Charity and sits on the boards of the RNLI and the Juvenile Diabetes research foundation.
