Kriss Akabusi Biography
Kriss Akabusi is one of the most prominent motivational speakers on the corporate scene. He is also an adept and charismatic awards host.
Background and Career
Previously Kriss was internationally famous for his achievements in athletics - his greatest individual triumph was his Gold medal in the 1990 European Championships when he also beat David Hemery’s 22 year old British Record. Kriss began his international career in 1983 as a member of the 4 x 400 metre relay squad and will probably always be remembered for helping Britain clinch the Gold and beat the Americans in the World Championships 4 x 400 metre relay in Tokyo in 1991.
Royal Recognition
In 1992, as 3 times Olympic medalist, World, European and Commonwealth Champion, Kriss was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty The Queen in her Birthday Honours List in recognition of his services to the country through athletics.
Kriss Akabusi Breaks into the Media
Kriss broke into TV in 1993 when he presented The Big Breakfast. This was followed rapidly with a full-time position on Record Breakers. He has gone on to appear regularly on various programmes both TV and radio.

Speakers Corner: How did the corporate speaking start?
Kriss Akabusi: Towards the end of my Sporting Career as a recent World Champion at the 1991 track and field athletics championships I was asked to attend a sales conference and hand out the awards. At the end of the awards I was asked about the performance and the key lessons learned that might be transferable into the work place. The standing ovation and forthcoming platitudes encouraged me that I had a story that resonated in the work place.
Speakers Corner: Can you remember your first speaking engagement?
Kriss Akabusi: I spoke at an IT Sales conference as outlined above.
Speakers Corner: And your last event?
Kriss Akabusi: My last event was Waltham Forest Borough Council Love your Borough Awards.
Speakers Corner: Which event has been your favourite and why?
Kriss Akabusi: I love keynote and endnote presentations but my favourite events are awards evenings, because you get to celebrate the success of individual and team performers that make the organisation great. I'm able to get up close and personal and inject the event with my own brand of energy and enthusiasm and make everybody feel good about themselves and the achievements, whether that is the organisation holding the event, the event organiser, the sponsors, and the most important person's of all the awardees.

Kriss Akabusi: I'm motivated by seeing the positive energy in people, watching them as they get it, when they are inspired to utilise their gift and celebrate what they do that contributes to society at large.
