Michael Vatis Biography

Michael Vatis provides security insights every corporate leader needs to hear.  

Counter-terrorism Technologies

As Director of the Institute for Security Technology Studies, part of President Bush’s Department of Homeland Security, his role was to develop a range of counter-terrorism technologies, particularly in the cyber arena.

Until this point, Vatis headed the FBI’s National Infrastructure Protection Centre.  He founded the US Government agency responsible for detecting, warning and responding to cyber attacks – from terrorism and espionage to the threat of information warfare.  This encompassed the notorious ILOVEYOU virus and numerous cases of hacking.

Before joining the FBI, Michael Vatis served as Deputy Director of the Executive Office for National Security in the Department of Justice and advised the Attorney General on national security matters.

Michael Vatis is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Princeton and Harvard Law School.
