CBBC presenter Michelle Ackerley is a rising star on the UK awards hosting circuit. Her charm and experience make her the ideal choice to present a variety of events.
Background and career
After graduating from Manchester University with a degree in Psychology, Michelle followed her dream of working in Television. Starting at work experience level she quickly moved up through the ranks to Assistant Producer and has worked on a range programmes such as Junior & Celebrity Mastermind, Blue Peter, Beat The Boss, A Question of Sport and HardSpell.
Michelle has an inquisitive mind and loves to research into new and unusual topics. From working on programmes such as Mastermind she has had the challenge of bringing a wealth subjects to life - from The Philosophy of Existentialism & The History of Metal Mining to The adventures of TinTin!
She is extremely creative and has a passion for fashion and art. Whilst working within production in 2010 Michelle attended on open audition within CBBC for the hunt for a new presenter. She was picked out of hundreds to present on a new series called Deadly Art. This has been a success within CBBC, where Michelle, along with a team of other artists is set the challenge of creating weird and wonderful art inspired by the Deadly 60 presenter Steve Backshall. The show also incorporates ‘Deadly Days out’ where Michelle speaks live to hundreds of children at various festival sites around the country and teaches them how to draw.
Off the back of Deadly Art, she was quickly approached to present new CBBC show ‘I Want My Own Room.’ On each episode Michelle is given the task of completely transforming a space – be it a bedroom, living room, outdoor area – solely for the child’s enjoyment. Michelle has a natural on screen rapport with children and young adults and has been able to use her creativity and imagination to design some fantastic, new and innovative spaces for children to use. From a rehearsal room complete with a sound proof recording studio, to an arts and crafts den with their very own animation workshop – to building a dance studio from scratch in a back garden! She is involved in a new CBBC online Learning campaign to encourage children to get creative and teach them how to design and make crafts.
Michelle has a real desire to connect with the youth of today. She is a diversity youth mentor and really enjoys motivating & offering direction to children and teenagers. She is frequently called upon to present online films for the BBC aimed at encouraging youngsters to get involved in the media and think of new career paths.
