Robin Oakley Biography
Former Political Editor for the BBC Robin Oakley is a contributor to CNN on European affairs and is European Political Editor of CNN.com. With his interest in horse racing, Robin is also the Turf columnist of The Spectator magazine and the racing correspondent for the Financial Times. A witty and interesting after dinner speaker and keynote speaker, Robin Oakley is happy to share anecdotes and thoughts on both the politcal and horse racing world.
European Political Editor
From 2000 to 2008, Robin Oakley was the well-travelled European Political Editor of CNN. Before that he was for eight years the Political Editor of the BBC, working for a wide range of TV and radio programmes and covering EU summits, G8 meetings and prime ministerial trips around the world as well as the full range of domestic politics.
From 1986-92 Robin Oakley was the Political Editor and columnist for The Times in London. His previous experience included being assistant editor of the Daily Mail (1981-86), political and assistant editor of Now! Magazine (1979-81), Crossbencher columnist and then assistant editor of the Sunday Express (1970-79) and political editor of the Liverpool Daily Post.
Oakley was for many years a presenter of The Week in Westminster for BBC Radio Four.
Horse Racing Pundit & Author
A well-known figure on the country’s race-tracks, Robin Oakley is the author of a number of books including
- Valley Of The Racehorse, a book about the trainers, jockeys and racing folk in Lambourn, Berkshire
- Inside Track, an anecdote-filled reflection on his years reporting politics.

Robin Oakley offers insightful and interesting opinions on the European political arena and his also an amusing and anecdotal after dinner speaker.
Awards
Robin Oakley was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to political journalism in 2001.
