Emma Barnett to host Radio 5 Live's morning show

9 June 2016

Women’s Editor of The Daily Telegraph Emma Barnett is to host BBC Radio 5 Live's morning show from September 2016.

Emma, who first joined 5 Live in 2014, will replace the slot's current presenter Peter Allen who has been with the station since it began in 1994.

The first woman to have a solo daily slot  on the station since the exit of Shelagh Fogarty and Victoria Derbyshire, Emma has said that she wanted her programme to be “a place where people share strong views and have conversations that would normally happen in private”.

The changes are the most notable shake-up to the station's schedule since September 2014 following the departure of several long-serving presenters including Fogarty & Derbyshire.

A revamp is also set for the afternoon spot, with Asian Network presenter and former Radio 1 DJ Nihal Arthanayake taking the place of Dan Walker, the new presenter of BBC1’s Breakfast.

Of Emma and Nihal, it has been said that the station had secured "two of the most exciting talents in British radio"

Emma will host from Wednesdays to Fridays, while Adrian Chiles  will continue on Monday and Tuesday.
