The Scottish football team managed by sports speaker Gordon Strachan, defeated Croatia at Hampden with a 2-0 victory.
Before the match Gordon spoke about the difficulties the team had faced with winning matches at home, he stated “It's just finding a system that suits that set of players, we seem to have, away from home, got that system. It's about finding a system now that suits us at home.”
The victory against Croatia left Scotland in fourth place within their qualifying group for the Brazil World Cup. Gordon noted that another reason the Scottish team have had difficulties winning at Hamden is because it is no longer intimidating to other teams; “If you go back to the 70s or 80s, we could be aggressive to people here. We were an aggressive nation. It actually scared people to come here but you can't do that now. Teams can come here without the fear of being intimidated.”
The home win against Croatia was the first since Scotland beat Lithuania at Hamden more than two years ago. Gordon was thrilled with his team’s victory, after the match he said “Last night when I went to sleep, I envisaged some sort of victory, but that was beyond a dream when you play as confidently. That's probably our best performance.”
