Jay Hunt, the controller of BBC One, announced at the Edinburgh Television Festival that The Graham Norton Show would move from Monday nights to Friday night taking over slot formerly occupied by Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.
She said: "I'm sure the audience will love his unique blend of comedy and entertainment on a Friday night."
Graham Norton's chat show was first broadcast on BBC Two in 2007, before moving to Monday nights on BBC One in the autumn last year.
"I'm thrilled that BBC One like the show enough to move it to Fridays," Graham said.
"It's the night the show started on many years ago so it's nice to be back."
The Graham Norton Show on Fridays will begin on Friday 22 October.
It was also confirmed in May that Norton would be filling Ross's BBC Radio 2 slot on Saturday mornings from 2 October.
Ross announced at the beginning of the year he was leaving the BBC after 13 years, having decided not to renew his contract.
