The International Paralympics Committee's, Swimming World Championships, begins this week in Glasgow. The week long event will welcome 600 athletes from around 70 countries.
For many of the swimmers it will mean a return to Scotland after competing in the Commonwealth Games last year and an opportunity for the city to shine even brighter on the world stage with Visit Scotland hoping to further heighten Glasgow’s reputation, not only as an outstanding stage for international events, but also as a place to visit.
British swimmer Ellie Simmonds has won 13 World titles and 10 European titles, as well as having 10 world records. The Glasgow Evening Times quotes her as saying “I’m so excited about the home world championships. Home support was so important during the London 2012 Paralympics and I really love it when the crowd cheer us on. Glasgow will be my fourth world championships".
With heats currently underway and with all the action being covered by Channel 4 and More4, as well as real time updates online, everyone will be able to keep up with all the action North of the border.
