The BBC’s annual Sports Personality of the Year took place in Glasgow last night with yet another important win going to Mercedes Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton, who won Formula 1’s top prize this year for the second time in his career, was apparently speechless at last night’s win but did find the words to say:
"I want to say a huge thank you to all the people who called in, I really wasn't expecting it," he added.
"I am so speechless. I'm so proud and honoured to be among such great sporting talent."
Golfer Rory McIlroy came second and athlete Jo Pavey came third.
Hamilton himself has come close previously to winning the award being runner-up to Joe Calzaghe in 2007 and Sir Chris Hoy the following year.
