More celebrities trace their roots in a new series of Who Do You Think You Are?

10 August 2011

Who Do You Think You Are? returns to our screens tonight with a host of new celebrities looking to reveal the lives and experiences of their ancestors.

The series starts with June Brown who looks back into her past to find out if she is a real Eastender. The oldest person ever to take part in the programme, June unravels her Jewish heritage, and discovers how momentous historical events shaped her family's destiny, forcing them to migrate across Europe.

June decides to search for Isaac Bitton, her great-great-greatgrandfather and a bare-knuckle fighter of some renown at the start of the 19th century. His career ended after a colossal, bloody 74 rounds on Wimbledon Common, after which he retired undefeated. The hunt for her roots takes June to Holland, where there is a poignant moment in an Amsterdam cemetery, and Spain.

J K Rowling is the focus of next week's programme. Other celebrities involved in this series of the BAFTA award winning show include, Richard Madeley, Larry Lamb,  Alan Carr ,  Seb Coe , Emilia Fox, Len Goodman, Robin Gibb, and Tracey Emin.

Catch the first episode on Wednesday 10th August at 9pm on BBC One.
