The London 2012 Paralympic Games were awarded a BAFTA for the best sport and live event of 2012 and they were up against some strong competition.
The other programmes in the category included the London 2012 Olympics: Super Saturday, the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony: Isle of Wonder and Wimbledon 2012-Men’s Final. Paralympian and keynote speaker, Giles Long, attended the BAFTA’s with Channel 4 and tweeted after the event saying “Resign myself to the fact it doesn’t matter because we won’t win. 8ish we win!! Cripes”.
The Paralympics which were shown on Channel 4 last summer and were a great success, Channel 4’s James Rutherford spoke after the awards and said “A large team of people put in a terrific amount of hard work around this project and it’s fabulous they have been recognised on such a prestigious evening.”
