Piff the Magic Dragon Named Stage Magician of the Year

6 May 2013

Magic Circle has named Piff the Magic Dragon stage magician of the year, Piff whose real name is John van der Put has become the second member of the magic society to have won this award along with the close up magician of the year title.

Piff received his title at the Magic Circle’s London headquarters where he picked up his £1000 cash prize; he was assisted by his card trick performing Chihuahua, Mr Piffles. Piff appeared to be happy with his new title, saying “As the world’s only remaining magical dragon, I am relieved that my species is declining with a bang.”

After appearing on the Penn and Teller series ‘Fool Us’, Piff attracted 8 million viewers on youtube and in January 2013 he was called to membership of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star. This is the society’s highest level of membership, which is limited to only 300 of the world’s most established magicians.

The magic circle president Jack Devlin was quoted saying “The standard at this year’s event was extraordinarily high, but the dragon scorched the competition.”

Piff will be appearing at the Edinburgh fringe festival this year and is available for after dinner entertainment  for corporate events.
