After months of preparation in Glasgow, the Commonwealths Games are finally here and will begin officially tomorrow. The Opening Ceremony will take place this evening at Hampden Stadium.
Tonight’s opening ceremony will include performances from Rod Stewart and Susan Boyle and organisers have said that they are expecting a global TV audience of up to 1 billion people. The ceremony will involve 2000 cast members and according to organisers it ‘will surprise, delight and be uniquely Glaswegian and Scottish’.
The games take place over 11 days and will feature 17 different sports, the competitions will commence tomorrow. Commentators and television pundits such as Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Huw Edwards and Hazel Irvine will be at the Opening ceremony to see the Queen’s Baton Relay reach its climax with Her Majesty conducting the official opening of the so-called Friendly Games.
Athletes competing in this year’s Games include Scottish swimmer Michael Jamieson and Usian Bolt will be representing Jamaica in the 4x100m relay.
