Alan Mak’s relaxed demeanour belies an intense intelligence and an in-depth understanding of his subjects - Gen Y, business trends, management, macroeconomics, technology, globalisation and the role these factors have in shaping the future.

Alan’s impressive background includes working as an advisor and speechwriter to Hon. Ed Vaizey MP, the UK’s internet, technology and communications minister, and spending time with Sir Bob Geldof as a member of David Cameron’s high-level group advising on international development, trade and aid and focusing mainly on China and Africa.

Alan is also a former advisor to the President of an emerging West African country, looking at the country’s 20 year plan for political, economic and strategic development.

As a member of the expert TheCityUK –China Britain Business Council China Advisory Committee, Alan advises British businesses on export strategies, working with UKTI and the UK government. He is the co-founder of the 48 Group Club’s network of next generation UK-China business leaders and is an advisor to Young Professionals in Foreign Policy as well as being a member of Chatham House and a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and Cambridge University’s Advisory Board.

In his speeches Alan shares the same views as Gen Y and he explains why traditional top-down models of corporate leadership no longer work in the multi-polar, multi-lingual, digitally enabled global market place. He has attended the last four WEF annual meetings in Davos, is a World Economic Forum Young Global Shaper and is a Global Ambassador and Advisory Board Member for One Young World, the annual summit of 1500 Gen Y leaders, which is supported by Bill Clinton, amongst others. He therefore has exclusive insight into international business development, and Alan’s experience is obvious in his work and his speeches. He is a private technology investor, advisor to start-ups and a non-executive director of Havas UK Group, a global leader in advertising, marketing and digital services.

Alan shares much of his insight and expertise with the world’s leading businesses, governments and NGO’s. He shares with them the strategies, trends and behaviours that allow them to understand and succeed in this rapidly-changing world. He was recently named as Management Today/BSkyB’s ‘One to Watch’ sustainable business leader and listed in Square Mile Magazine’s Top 30 under 30, and the Guardian/Courvoisier Future 500 network of Britain’s outstanding leaders. His achievements also include co-writing ‘Next Generation Vision’, a landmark report on financial services backed by TheCityUK and London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Alan also donates some of his time to charities and is the President and Trustee of leading children’s charity Magic Breakfast and chairs the British Legion’s young supporters’ network.

Alan is running in the 2015 General Election in Havant, Hampshire for the Conservative party.

Alan has written for and been featured in a wide range of business and trade publications and has appeared on TV, radio and online forums around the world. He was a London 2012 Olympic torch bearer and served on the UK government’s City philanthropy advisory group. He is a member of Speakers4Schools, the invitation only network of outstanding inspirational speakers, created by BBC business editor Robert Peston and has the ability to speak to audiences of all ages, using his vast amount of experience to tailor his speeches to each audience.
